Design Concepts for Review

The Big Basin Redwoods Facilities Management Plan (BBFMP) is the park plan to guide future rebuilding of recreational facilities at Big Basin Redwoods State Park after the CZU Fire according to the Reimagining Big Basin Vision Summary document completed in 2022.

The BBFMP includes the development of conceptual alternatives to evaluate distinctive strategies for site configuration and use and these design alternatives are now available for public review.

Visiting Big Basin

While much of Big Basin Redwoods State Park continues to recover and remains closed to the public, California State Parks crews are working to reestablish safe access to trails and evocative nature experiences. Some trails are open now and limited facilities are available to support visitor experiences.

Park Planning

After almost all recreational facilities were lost in the 2020 CZU Fire, State Parks completed a visioning process to reimagine the future of Big Basin Redwoods State Park. This vision process culminated with creation of the Reimagining Big Basin Vision Summary document in summer 2022. Now, a Facilities Management Plan is underway that will set the stage for the reestablishment of facilities to support visitor experiences and protect sensitive resources.
